Van Speybroek Residence
Arcata, California
This 3,500 square foot dream home is the result of an intensive eight-week design interaction between the client and the architect. The effort resulted in a contemporary house that expressed the VanSpeybroek's desire to feature the kitchen as the center of their home. JAG developed a three-story atrium that washes the custom kitchen below in daylight. Exposed structural beams radiate out from here into a great room. This space is wrapped with windows highlighting an ocean view. The second floor sleeping quarters feature an outdoor bathing area overlooking a redwood forested backyard.
